Keeping your window open

Many of us have spoken about the Window of Tolerance - the psychological space where we are comfortable and safe.  We can deal with daily ups and downs and experience both positive and negative emotions in a healthy and manageable way.  The Window of Tolerance is impacted by trauma and stress.

Often we find it hard to share what we are feeling or why we are heightened or withdrawn.  This video, shared with me by an amazing client explains the Window of Tolerance; it is a useful tool to show family or friends to help them understand your experiences and possibly their own.

So how do you keep your window as open as possible?

Come back to the basics (always the basics)

  • Enjoying a favourite activity such as a movie or game
  • Singing and dancing
  • Reading and researching
  • Cuddling and intimacy
  • Beach or nature time
  • Sharing time with family and friends
  • Journaling or drawing
  • Exercise and fitness- high or low impact

As you can gather the list is endless…. Just think about what brings you peace and if you’re not sure, try some things…. I’ve got plenty of ideas of you need them.

Remember

  • Stay aware of your window and your capacity
  • If you need to- STOP, PAUSE and RESET
  • Replenish your psychological space at least once a day

Ready to "...rethink your potential"?

If you’re ready to release what no longer serves you, work through a challenge, or open up to new possibilities, this may be the right moment to reach out for support.
