Yes, this month’s spotlight is about going to the toilet. “A lovely wee” was born in an Alexander Technique conference over 10 years ago, with a colleague sharing that this was her moment to truly stop and pause. To be able to be fully present in the surroundings, to not be distracted and to allow the body to take it’s very natural and known process. The body knows what to do and we often get in its way.
Consider how you go to the toilet. Do you pee as fast as you possibly can only to have to go back a few minutes or an hour later? Are you distracted scrolling on your phone and not considering if you have fully released your pelvic floor muscles? Did you drink enough water that day …. the colour will tell you.
Our work in therapy is somatic and that means both the mind and the body. To Stop, Pause and Reset in the common place of going to the toilet gives us a window to be able to be fully present with our bodies. Test it out and see what you notice.
And if you are really curious, ask me about the position of mechanical advantage 😊
More to come on body mapping and awareness over the coming months.
