Medical Professionals
Professional referrals are welcomed from General Practitioners, Psychologists, Allied Health Practitioners, Workplace or Rehabilitation Providers.
Direct referrals
Upon your referral, each client is invited to participate in an initial consultation prior to booking to determine suitability for Intensive Therapy.
Collaboration with existing treating practitioners is encouraged to support continuity of care, including dual psychology support if the client has an existing therapist.
For professional referrals, please contact Carina directly to discuss suitability and timing.

Single vs rolling sessions
Intensive work is offered in two primary formats, depending on presentation and goals.
1. Single Incident / Specific Topic Intensives
Designed for focused work around a clearly defined issue, such as:
- Workplace injury
- Motor vehicle accident
- Assault
- Acute traumatic event
- Specific phobia or trigger
These may involve:
A single extended session, or multiple intensives over a short, contained period.
The aim is targeted processing to reduce triggers, shift responses, and build regulation resources.
2. Rolling Intensives
For more complex or layered presentations, including:
- Developmental trauma
- Complex PTSD
- Chronic pain or somatic presentations
- Long-standing emotional or behavioural patterns
Rolling intensives occur at regular intervals (e.g. fortnightly or monthly) for an agreed period.
Frequency is determined by:
- Scope and depth of the work
- Client capacity
- Integration needs between sessions
- This model allows progressive, contained deep work with integration time between sessions.
Presentation & readiness
Intensive work requires an appropriate level of stability and readiness. Considerations include the client’s capacity to remain resourced during deeper processing, the presence of adequate support systems, stability in mental health and medication, and the ability to integrate and apply the work between sessions.
In some cases, early sessions focus on resourcing and safety before deeper trauma processing begins. Carina works from a client-centred model rather than a fixed programme. Each client is individually assessed prior to commencement, including a discussion of relevant history, current supports, risk considerations, medication, and therapeutic goals. Suitability is determined collaboratively.
Working alongside psychologists
Intensive work can sit alongside ongoing therapy and is designed to complement, not replace, existing psychological treatment. Where a client has a regular psychologist or mental health professional, collaboration is welcomed with the client’s consent. Communication may occur where appropriate to ensure continuity of care, alignment of therapeutic goals, and integration of the intensive work within the broader treatment plan.
Initial consultation
Prospective clients and referrers are encouraged to book a brief consultation call to discuss suitability, clarify goals, explore session format options, and determine availability. This ensures that intensive work is appropriate and aligned before proceeding.
Clinical supervision
As a Board Approved Supervisor, Carina offers supervision services to psychology students and psychologists requiring additional supervision services.
Individual and group supervision options are available.
Provisional Psychologists: Individuals in the 4+2 or 5+1 internship programs.
Higher Degree Students: Students on clinical placements during a Master’s, Doctoral, or other accredited higher degree.
