Explore the toolbox we have on hand to help “...rethink your potential™”

Here at Pathways, we pride ourselves on being able to offer you a range of trauma-informed, evidence-based approaches to safely navigate our way through the most difficult challenges. We work at a level below talk therapy, for whilst this is very valuable, we know that sometimes we need to go a bit (or a lot) deeper.
The type of approach we use will depend on what you wish to work on, if a particular type of therapy interests you, and most of all, which therapy achieves the best response for your individual system. We will work together to find your right fit.
Weekly therapy has many benefits - but often, clients find it difficult to get into the emotional work and then go back to their day. Intensives create a more focused and immersive experience, leading to powerful and lasting results.
You’ll receive individualised care in a targeted, streamlined and optimised way.
Our Primary Therapies
Our primary approaches have been chosen as they each work to harness the brain's natural ability to heal from psychological wounds, much like the body heals a physical injury. They each importantly work through a somatic lens, highlighting the interconnectivity of the brain and body responses. Each of these therapies works within the brain’s deep processing areas and helps to provide a safe passage for healing and repair.
Psychological Therapies
EMDR & EMDR 2.0
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing) addresses the reprocessing of traumatic memories. It targets memories and patterns stored in the body and brain and works to adapt old patterns or beliefs into new, healthier versions. It is often recognised for the eye movements utilised in the desensitisation phase of the technique.
Brainspotting
Brainspotting works to connect points in the visual field to a traumatic or difficult experience, therefore allowing access, processing and a “release” of emotions, thoughts and sensations.
DBR
DBR (Deep Brain Reorienting) focusses on addressing the body’s shock reaction patterns even before the emotional, cognitive or conscious connections are made. DBR diminishes, eliminates, and reprograms the habitual response patterns that occur when an actual or perceived threat is present
Somatic Interventions
Alexander Technique
The Alexander Technique specialises in psychological (mind) and physical (body) awareness and integration, that results in patterns of movement, behaviours and thoughts. Through functional education of how your body is put together, along with self and therapist observation, you work towards conscious control and choice over your reactions and responses.
Our Supporting Therapies
We complement our primary approaches with a wide range of therapies to help you become and stay grounded, deepen your awareness of your own behaviours and gain an understanding of how your past influences are impacting you now.
Schema Therapy
Schema Therapy is focused on addressing maladaptive (no longer useful) patterns of belief and thinking. Schema Therapy helps us to identify negative or unhelpful thought patterns, how they originated and work to move towards more positive or helpful core beliefs.
DNMS
DNMS (Developmental Needs Meeting Strategy) is a resourcing-based approach that allows us to identify and support the unmet needs resulting from fractured childhood bonds and core attachment needs.
Mindfulness
Mindfulness is designed to allow us to be fully present and utilise our senses to be aware of ourselves and our surroundings. It often seems basic, but so very important when our nervous system is escalating.
IFS
IFS (Internal Family Systems) is a therapy working with parts of yourself. Three main categories are explored: Our Protective parts, who are there to keep us safe, the Exiles or wounds that are being protected and the core is the Self, the sun behind the clouds that plays a vital role in healing.
TFCBT
TFCBT (Trauma Focussed Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) is a skills-based approach that allows you to better understand the patterns of your thinking and your actions. It provides targeted psychological education (Psychoed.) on the natural reactions to trauma in the body and allows gradual exposure to trauma triggers and events.
Psychoeducation
Psychoeducation involves providing information about mental health, emotions, behaviour and how the brain, body and nervous system function. It helps people better understand their experiences, symptoms, coping strategies and the processes involved in therapy and recovery.
