One of the greatest things that has come from the recent mental health movement is the increasing number of men that have entered therapy or seeking psychological support. Either in person or utilising apps, podcasts and/or even just talking to their partners and mates. I have seen a significant increase over the past couple of years and it is so so good.
For many years, self help and development books were literally targeted for women. Now there are a range of tools and services designed for and resonate with men.
One of the grounds breakers here I believe is The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck by Mark Manson. His direct style was refreshing and one I have often recommended as a starter book.

My current favourite is a guy from the USA who labels his approach as Brass Balls Tender Heart. He has some great blogs and an e-book you can download.

The Imperfects is also an exceptional podcast that isn’t afraid to hit the hard topics. A recent interview with Jack Post from Gold FM talks about Jack’s anxiety when he was unable to bond with his first child.

And of course there is MensLine Australia which provides tools and a direct help line. I will often use their resources when I need a little something extra for one of my male clients.

Men experience trauma, neglect, abuse and abandonment.
Men feel. You love, you grieve, you get scared, you get angry, you feel pain, you feel shame, you are courageous, you are resilient, you laugh and most of all… you grow!
Well done to all of my male clients and all those who support their own male circles with mental health.
Please note: that Gender Diversity is respected and I hope that this post respectfully resonates with everyone through your own lens.
